Shareholder data shouldn’t be public by obligation, EU court opinion says

The Latvian referral to the EU's top court concerns national legislation that allows access to shareholder data without a legitimate-interest requirement. Safeguarding a transparent business environment, preventing fraud and ensuring enforcement of national and international sanctions do not constitute a legitimate interest for data sharing, Advocate General Rimvydas Norkus said, assigning greater weight to the protection of a private life.Opinion attached.
