UK digital visa poses excessive privacy risks, civil society groups tell ICO

( December 12, 2025, 10:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK plans for a digital-only visa are exposing migrants to data errors, account lockouts and barriers to proving their legal rights, a coalition of 19 civil society organizations has said in a letter to the Information Commissioner’s Office, published on Friday. The coalition, led by Open Rights Group, urged the data privacy regulator to investigate the implementation of the eVisa system, which it said has widespread inaccuracies, inaccessible design and technical failures that have left people unable to work, to rent property, to travel or to access certain services. The coalition argued that the Home Office’s data protection assessment of the system is incomplete and misleading.Statement follows. Letter attached....
