Hungary must stop price-margin restrictions on retailers, EU watchdog says

( December 11, 2025, 11:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hungary has been accused by the European Commission of limiting the margin between purchase prices and sales prices for food products sold by retailers as well as non-food products sold in drugstores. Hungary restricted the margins to such a low level that it doesn't allow companies to cover their costs, the European Commission said Thursday. While Hungary applies the measures to all foreign companies forcing them to sell their products at a loss, only some Hungarian businesses are hit by the restrictions. The authority is calling on the country to refrain from this practice, giving it two months to take the necessary steps. Hungary could otherwise be taken to the Court of Justice.Statement follows. ...
