Hungary hit with EU infringement procedure over media rules breaches

( December 11, 2025, 11:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hungary is facing a formal EU infringement procedure for failing to comply with the European Media Freedom Act and key provisions of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, the European Commission said Thursday. The regulator said Hungarian law enables interference in journalists’ work, lacks adequate protection for sources. Moreover, the commission said Hungarian law falls short on media ownership transparency, public service media rules and state advertising safeguards, while also breaching requirements for national media regulators. Hungary now has two months to reply to the commission's complaints.The press release follows....
