Vietnam passes revised IP law, retains controversial AI provision

( December 11, 2025, 06:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Vietnam’s National Assembly on Wednesday passed a revised intellectual property law, with more than 91 percent of 438 lawmakers voting in favor. The law emphasizes the commercialization of IP rights as enterprise assets that can be valued, traded and used as collateral for loans and capital contributions. It also states that products created by artificial intelligence are not protected by copyright or patent rights, while retaining a provision that allows organizations, individuals and the public to use published texts and data to train and develop AI systems without seeking permission or paying, a point that has been at the center of an industry debate.
