South Korea unveils strategies to strengthen AI chip sectors

( December 10, 2025, 06:52 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea announced on Wednesday a set of strategies to strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the semiconductor industry, particularly for products in growing demand from the artificial-intelligence sector. While South Korea is the world’s strongest player in the memory-chip sector, it is urgent for the country to build competitiveness in fast-growing areas such as system chips and packaging as AI adoption accelerates globally, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources said. The ministry said it will focus research-and-development funding on chips specialized for AI inference — such as on-device AI chips and processing-in-memory chips — and will expand support for developing compound semiconductors and advanced packaging technologies, as well as for cultivating top-tier talent in AI-related chip sectors.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
