South Korea lawmakers fast-track legislation to support AI data centers

The three proposals would classify AI data centers as essential national infrastructure and establish special procedures to bypass administrative delays. Some lawmakers cautioned, however, that without regional safeguards the plan could worsen the capital area’s already severe concentration of resources.The South Korean parliament is moving quickly to pass legislation that would support the construction of artificial intelligence-capable data centers and the industry that operates them, with both lawmakers and private-sector experts agreeing on the need for swift support measures during a public hearing....
