Accused BTC-e operator wins access to IRS investigative materials

( December 9, 2025, 23:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A federal judge has granted a motion by Aliaksandr Kilmenka, the accused operator of the BTC-e money laundering platform, to compel federal prosecutors to turn over a report over the operation of BTC-e done by an IRS special agent, Gary Alford, in the Southern District of New York. "While the government disputes Klimenka’s characterization of the SDNY investigation and SA Alford’s conclusions, in light of the factual overlap between the cases as well as SA Alford’s statement in the May 2, 2025 email about the existence of potentially exculpatory and/or impeachment evidence, the Court concludes that Klimenka is entitled to discovery of the evidence underlying SA Alford’s probable cause memo," US District Judge Susan Illston said in granting Klimenka's motion to compel discovery of the report.See attached document....
