Put a handling fee on incoming low-value parcels, eight EU countries urge

( December 9, 2025, 14:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission must step up its action against non-EU e-commerce platforms that don't comply with the bloc's safety and product standards, including urgently introducing a European handling fee on low-value parcels from abroad, eight EU countries said on Tuesday. In a joint letter, Austria, Belgium, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Spain said the handling fee was required due to the pressure on Europe's customs and control services from a "massive" inflow of parcels, and would be in line with the reform of the EU Customs Union. The commission should also step up its enforcement of the EU's Digital Services Act, the eight countries said.Statement attached. ...
