China Politburo sets 2026 economic agenda with push for domestic demand, risk control

( December 8, 2025, 09:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s top political leadership said Monday that the economy is on track to meet this year’s main development goals. It also set priorities for 2026, calling for stronger macro-policy coordination, expanded domestic demand and continued efforts to defuse risks in critical sectors. In a meeting chaired by Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping, the Politburo also urged faster development of “new-quality productive forces,” progress on building a nationwide unified market and the preparation of national and local 15th Five-Year Plans. It added that China must better coordinate domestic economic policy with international economic and trade pressures and more effectively balance development and security.The statement follows (in Chinese)....
