Australian competition watchdog gains new commissioner

( December 8, 2025, 03:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia's competition regulator on Monday announced the appointment of Ian Oppermann as a commissioner for a five-year term starting Dec. 10. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said Oppermann will replace commissioner Peter Crone, who worked on competition, fair trade practices and consumer welfare. The regulator said that Crone decided not to seek a further term. The regulator said Oppermann will be contributing his “technological and data acumen including around the use of AI in government.” Oppermann recently served as data standards chair for Digital ID and Consumer Data Right under the government.
