Competition Act's override clause gives Indian watchdog wider reach, court rules

Dismissing JioStar’s appeal, the Kerala High Court ordered the CCI to issue a jurisdictional ruling within eight weeks before proceeding or deferring the matter to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.Clearing the way for the Indian antitrust watchdog to investigate broadcast major JioStar India, a domestic court ruled that while both the 2002 Competition Act, and the 1997 Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, are special laws, the competition legislation prevails contextually in matters concerning abuse of dominant position....
