Almost all top 1,000 websites in UK are ad cookie compliant watchdog says

( December 4, 2025, 12:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Of the top 1,000 websites in the UK, 979 are compliant on how they use and communicate on cookies, the data protection authority said Thursday. The Information Commissioner’s Office said 415 of the sites passed without intervention and 564 improved their practices with engagement from the watchdog after initially failing. The ICO said it would continue to take action with the remaining 21 failing sites. The watchdog's checks for compliance focused on whether advertising cookies were stored on users’ devices before they had a chance to reject them, whether any were placed despite user rejection and whether rejection was as easy as acceptance.Statement follows:...
