First EU-wide criminal laws to fight corruption win lawmakers' backing

( December 3, 2025, 13:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU lawmakers have reached a provisional agreement on a directive to harmonize laws to fight corruption across the bloc. The directive, the first of its kind, puts in place single definitions for offenses such as bribery, misappropriation of funds and obstruction of justice. The new rules also establish a common level for maximum prison sentences across the EU, while allowing each country to legislate for stricter penalties, the European Parliament said.Statement follows....
