Beijing orders 18 niche messaging apps to tighten anti-fraud controls

( November 21, 2025, 09:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The cyberspace, public-security and communications regulators in China's capital city recently summoned the operators of 18 niche messaging apps — small chat platforms that can only be downloaded via links or invitation codes — to warn them of fraud risks and order timely fixes. Citing the Anti–Telecom and Online Fraud Law and the Cybersecurity Law, officials required the apps to enforce real-name registration, strengthen systems to detect suspicious activity and bolster internal anti-fraud controls. The companies were also urged to cooperate with enforcement and enhance user fraud-prevention alerts. Regulators will conduct broader inspections and will levy administrative penalties on companies that fail to rectify or make adequate corrections. The statement follows (in Chinese)....
