China plans tighter cyber, AI oversight under new five-year strategy, official says

( December 3, 2025, 08:57 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s internet regulator will step up cybersecurity safeguards, bolster data-security defenses and tighten oversight of AI safety as it moves to carry out recommendations under the forthcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, Zhuang Rongwen, director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, said. Key initiatives include strengthening protection of critical information infrastructure, using cybersecurity reviews and cloud-service security assessments to shore up supply-chain security and tightening rules for classified and tiered protection of network data as well as risk assessments. Regulators also plan to refine cross-border data management, ramp up routine app-security testing and crack down on personal-data abuses. Zhuang said an “inclusive and prudent” AI strategy will bring new oversight frameworks, clearer safety obligations, stronger risk-monitoring tools and a labeling system for AI-generated content, plus sector-specific safety guidelines.The statement follows (in Chinese): ...
