China maps out tougher personal-data protections, more efficient cross-border regime

The regulator will expand certification and audit requirements, step up enforcement against apps and smart devices that excessively collect data, and issue new guidance for industry-specific outbound data flows. It also aims to support free-trade zones in piloting negative lists for data exports and push forward rules on network-data security and major platform oversight.China’s internet authority will strengthen efforts to protect personal information and improve cross-border data transfer management, making both priorities to ensure network data security over the next five years, a senior official said....
