Carlyle–BASF Coatings deal faces review under Australia's new merger regime

In a statement on Friday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said Carlyle plans to acquire sole control of BASF Coatings, while BASF SE will retain a 40 percent non-controlling interest and the Qatar Investment Authority will hold about 16 percent. The regulator is seeking views on whether the deal could lessen competition in paint and coatings manufacturing or related investment services, as both companies have operations across Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia.
