A cross-party bid for court scrutiny and the center-right EPP group’s withdrawal of plans to fast-track a farm safeguard have exposed deepening fractures, with a veto vote in January set to be decisive. Lead lawmaker Gabriel Mato, though, told MLex that he is optimistic that concerns have been addressed and insists the deal can still pass early next year.After 25 years of drift, dispute and delay, the landmark EU-Mercosur deal is finally within touching distance.
