Australian regulator clarifies timings, fee requirements under new merger regime

( November 27, 2025, 06:40 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Under Australia’s new merger regime, when a notification is submitted, the portal will generate a payment reference number to be used when paying the fee, but payment alone does not constitute notification, the antitrust regulator has confirmed. In an updated FAQs document published on Thursday, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission also clarified that there is no fee payable when submitting a draft notification through the regulator’s acquisitions portal. The regulator said that while notifications and waivers may be submitted throughout the holiday period between Dec. 23 and Jan. 10, 2026, the assessment timeline will only start on the first business day, Jan. 12, 2026The document is attached....
