Disney, other studios say infringers shouldn't get AI-specific version of US fair use

( November 26, 2025, 20:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Disney, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros. Entertainment told a US appeals court that it should avoid disrupting fair-use law, which would affect not only them but all creatives that rely on copyright law to protect their investments. The studios filed a brief supporting Thomson Reuters’ win in a copyright case against Ross Intelligence over Westlaw headnotes. They argued that the court should reaffirm the bedrock principle, on which copyright owners rely: creators have the right to license — or not license — their intellectual property as they see fit, and a copyright owner’s business decision not to offer a license does not transform unlicensed copying into fair use.
