EU Parliament backs one-year delay, review clause for deforestation rules

The European Parliament’s position shifts due-diligence obligations to companies first placing products on the EU market and eases requirements for small operators. A majority consisting of the center-right European People's Party and far-right groups supported the changes, prompting criticism from the center-left. Lawmakers must now negotiate with EU governments on the final version of the law.The EU’s anti-deforestation rules would be postponed by a year and made subject to an early review clause under changes backed by EU lawmakers on Wednesday, going beyond the European Commission’s initial simplification proposal....
