Unlicensed use of copyrighted works to train AI would harm creative markets, publishers say

( November 25, 2025, 20:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Association of American Publishers told a US appeals court that if the unlicensed use of copyrighted works for AI training were found to be fair use, copyright owners would be denied compensation and markets that are rightfully theirs. The association filed a brief in support of Thomson Reuters’ win in a copyright case against Ross Intelligence over Westlaw headnotes, arguing that the lower court decision ensures that exclusive rights remain meaningful and protected, incentivizes authors and publishers, and that the continued creation and distribution of expressive works benefits the public, as well as AI development.See attached file. ...
