Twitch to be captured by Australia’s social-media ban for under-16s

( November 21, 2025, 01:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Livestreaming platform Twitch has been informed that it is considered an “age-restricted” social-media platform for the purposes of Australia’s social-media ban for children under 16, the country’s online safety regulator announced. In a statement on Friday, the Australian eSafety Commissioner said that following Twitch’s self-assessment, the regulator found that Twitch met the criteria for an “age-restricted social media platform,” making it subject to the Social Media Minimum Age laws from Dec. 10. The regulator added that Twitch has the “sole or significant purpose” of online social interaction with features designed to encourage user interaction, including through livestreaming content. Meanwhile, the regulator has informed Pinterest that it is unlikely to be captured by the new laws.Full statement follows:...
