UK progress in 5G, fiber rollout and telecoms security mapped in Ofcom report

( November 19, 2025, 11:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK mobile operators now provide standalone 5G service to 83 percent of the country and fixed full-fiber broadband to 78 percent of homes, while national 4G coverage is now at 96 percent, according to a report by the telecom regulator on Wednesday. More than a million households dropped landlines in the 12 months to July 2025. The report also gave updates on Ofcom's telecoms security monitoring program and reported cybersecurity incidents. It said providers are making good progress on security measures relating to incident management, multi-factor authentication and SIM security, but it will follow up on three areas that providers find "challenging." Statement follows.
