EU's proposed GDPR changes draw criticism from privacy watchdog

By Matthew Newman ( November 19, 2025, 11:11 GMT | Insight) -- European Data Protection Board Chair Anu Talus warned that the European Commission’s forthcoming Digital Omnibus package risks overreaching on sensitive-data rules, saying simplification is acceptable only if the General Data Protection Regulation’s core principles remain intact. Talus said the leaked draft’s approach to sensitive information “might be excessive” even if the goals are understandable, and said that the European Data Protection Board and the European Data Protection Supervisor will issue a joint opinion on the proposals.The European Commission's draft proposals on changes to the bloc's data protection rules are raising concerns from the head of an umbrella group of European data protection authorities....
