Government efforts to cut methane emission lag 2030 target, UN report says

( November 18, 2025, 19:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Governments' efforts to curb methane emissions remain off track to meet the Global Methane Pledge of a 30 percent reduction by 2030 from 2020 levels despite policy progress and market shifts, the UN Environment Programme said in a new report on Monday. Methane emissions are still rising, though current legislation has lowered 2030 projections from earlier forecasts. Over 80 percent of potential methane cuts by 2030 could be achieved at low cost by fully implementing available control measures, with the energy sector accounting for 72 percent of total mitigation potential, the UN said.Full press release follows:...
