LEAG may get German support for early plant closure, EU watchdog says

( November 18, 2025, 15:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Germany can grant up to €1.75 billion to LEAG — Lausitz Energie Kraftwerke — to compensate it for the early phaseout of its lignite-fired power plants in eastern Germany, the European Commission said Tuesday. Germany revised the measure during an in-depth probe opened in 2021, and the measure has now been found to be necessary, appropriate and proportionate. In 2023, the commission cleared €2.6 billion in aid to RWE Power, for the early shutdown of its plants in a mining region of western Germany.Statement follows. ...
