Removed US federal board members back Slaughter against firing from FTC

( November 14, 2025, 21:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Removed board members from independent federal agencies and scholars filed a brief with the US Supreme Court in support of Rebecca K. Slaughter’s challenge to her removal from the Federal Trade Commission, saying independence from political pressure is critical to an agency’s ability to carry out its mission, and the court should not endorse any rule that would fail to take account of an agency’s responsibility for protecting public safety or critical infrastructure. They argued that Congress has structured agencies that play vital roles in safeguarding public safety and infrastructure, the structural integrity of government, and economic infrastructure to be impartial and independent because that is critical to their ability to discharge those functions.
