Link-up for EU and UK emissions trading systems wins EU governments' approval

( November 13, 2025, 13:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Trading emission allowances between the EU and the UK will soon operate without borders after EU governments approved on Thursday the formal linking of their respective emissions trading systems. The move will automatically exempt the UK from the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and help advance shared sustainability goals, EU member states said in a press release. The European Commission will now begin negotiations with the UK to reach an agreement on which sectors will be covered under the joint system — including electricity, heat generation, international aviation and maritime transport — and to establish a process for adding future sectors.Full press release follows:...
