India's CCI imposes 10% turnover penalty in solid-waste processing cartel

By Freny Patel ( November 13, 2025, 00:33 GMT | Insight) -- The Indian antitrust watchdog, the Competition Commission of India, has imposed a maximum penalty of 10 percent global turnover on six companies for repeated bid rigging in Pune waste-plant tenders, totaling 43.99 million rupees ($496,603). This followed a directive from the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal to review the penalty calculation, forcing the CCI to use global turnover to justly penalize "cover bidders" lacking relevant market sales.Six companies — Mahalaxmi Steels, Ecoman Enviro Solutions, Raghunath Industry, Sanjay Agencies, Fortified Security Solutions and Saara Traders — have been hit with the maximum possible penalty of 10 percent of their average global turnover by the Indian antitrust watchdog for their involvement in widespread and repeated bid rigging....
