South Korea asks Google to provide technical details for exporting national base map

( November 11, 2025, 04:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s National Geographic Information Institute, an agency under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, has postponed its review of Google’s request to export the country’s 1:5,000-scale national base map until the company submits additional documents. The agency said that while Google publicly pledged during a press conference in September to meet some of the government’s technical requirements, including obscuring sensitive sites and avoiding exposure of coordinate data, it has yet to provide supporting documents. Google has been given 60 days, until Feb. 5, 2026, to submit detailed materials outlining its proposed technical measures.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
