EU’s wait-and-see approach leaves standards for AI models up in the air

The move could leave companies without legal certainty until at least 2030, as standards will only follow feedback from implementation. Technological advances and changes to the regulatory framework could also undermine their relevance.The European Commission does not appear to be in any hurry to start the standardization work for the EU AI law’s rules on general-purpose AI models as it intends to use an existing code of practice as a testing ground, a move that could leave companies in legal limbo for years....
