UK lawmakers urged to push the IPO to think globally (update*)

By Douglas Clarke-Williams ( November 5, 2025, 16:45 GMT | Insight) -- UK lawmakers have been told in a private meeting with industry that the UK Intellectual Property Office, or IPO, should encourage patent holders to file in jurisdictions other than the UK as part of a drive to increase the competitiveness of UK businesses.On Tuesday the UK parliament’s Business and Trade Committee held a private meeting at which members of industry and academia told lawmakers that the IPO should help businesses file their patents in the US, EU and China as well as the UK. Parliamentarians were told that the limited protection offered by UK-only filings makes businesses less attractive to investors....
