Australian privacy watchdog boosts complaint reviews in 2024-2025 financial year

( November 5, 2025, 03:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The reviews of contested cases involving data privacy by Australia’s privacy watchdog numbered 2,470 in the 2024-2025 financial year — an increase of 41 percent from the previous year's total of 1,748. In publishing its annual report on Wednesday, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner also said that between July 2024 and June 2025 it had finalized 3,123 privacy complaints, marking a slight increase from the previous year. The regulator also revealed that it had issued 10 determinations following investigations of privacy complaints and finalized 1,155 notifications under Australia’s “notifiable data breach” provisions, with 85 percent of notification finalized within 60 days.The two volumes of the annual report are attached; the press release follows: ...
