Online platforms to face new UK legal obligations to combat violent pornography

( November 4, 2025, 11:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Online platforms will face new legal obligations in the UK under amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill that criminalize pornographic depictions of strangulation and suffocation. The material will be designated a priority offense under the Online Safety Act, tech minister Liz Kendall said on Tuesday, requiring platforms to actively detect, prevent and remove such depictions as illegal content. The measures, building on a recent review urging tougher oversight of violent pornography, also extend the prosecution window for intimate image abuse from six months to three years.Statement follows.
