South Korea's SK Telecom told to compensate users, with mediation acceptance pending

( November 4, 2025, 04:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: SK Telecom was ordered by South Korea’s privacy mediation panel to pay 300,000 won ($210) to each applicant over its large-scale leak that exposed 25 types of data, including phone numbers, USIM identifiers and USIM authentication keys. The Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee said Tuesday the decision covers about 4,000 applications filed since April and recognizes mental damages linked to fears of phone cloning and confusion during USIM replacements, while recommending stronger internal management plans and personal-information system safeguards. Acceptance by both sides within 15 days is required for the mediation to take effect, or the case ends at this stage.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
