New privacy laws in Texas expected to have companies reeling in 2026

The first was an amendment to the Texas Consumer Privacy Act that added a private right of action and expanded the definition of telephone call to include text messages and other electronic transmissions; the second was passage of the Texas App Store Accountability Act, which imposes a host of thorny requirements on app stores and developers.Next year will be a busy and “interesting” one for privacy litigation and enforcement in Texas, the former privacy enforcer for the Lone Star state said Friday....
