White House statement adds Japan's smartphone-law pledge missing from Tokyo's statement

( October 31, 2025, 06:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A White House fact sheet disclosing President Donald Trump’s agreement to receive Japanese investment in the US said Japan would implement its Mobile Software Competition Act “in a way that does not discriminate against US companies, balances the need for fair and free competition with user safety and convenience, and respects the legitimate exercise of intellectual property rights.” That sentence does not appear in a corresponding fact sheet released by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In December, the Japanese competition regulator is set to enforce the Act on Promotion of Competition for Specified Smartphone Software — also known as the Mobile Software Competition Act — which initially applies to Apple and Google.The statement from the White House follows.
