Australia's economic adviser to review competition in regional aviation sector, airfares

In a joint statement, the Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Minister for Transport Catherine King said that the Productivity Commission’s inquiry has been launched in response to the aviation white paper published in August 2024, which found that the average ticket price per kilometre was 52 percent higher for flights involving regional airports compared to flights between two state capitals. The statement added that more accessible regional airfares can help boost productivity in regional Australia.
