TikTok defends plans to reduce content moderation staff in the UK

( October 30, 2025, 18:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: TikTok has defended plans to reduce staff in its UK trust and safety team, telling a parliamentary committee that the changes are intended to “improve the speed and efficacy” of content moderation rather than weaken user protections. The committee on Thursday published TikTok’s response to a letter sent earlier this month by the Trades Union Congress, which raised concerns over job losses and reduced online safety oversight. A follow-up letter from its chair, Chi Onwurah, asking for details on the number of roles affected and whether a risk assessment was carried out, was also published. The chair said TikTok’s rationale “appears to contradict” earlier evidence about the limits of AI content moderation, and gave the company until Monday to provide details.Statement follows. Letters attached....
