Social media elections oversight in focus as UK govt studies lawmakers’ proposals (update*)

The government said on Wednesday it would respond formally to the proposals, which include asking regulator Ofcom to draft a dedicated elections code and giving lawmakers more chance to scrutinize its Online Safety Act implementation over concerns it has been “too cautious.”The UK government will “respond formally in due course” to a cross-party call for social media platforms to face elections codes of practice, it said in a statement on Wednesday....
