Australia's copyright law update to exclude AI exemptions, government says

In a statement on Sunday, Australian Attorney General Michelle Rowland said that the government “stands behind” the country’s creative industries. She added that by ruling out a text and data mining exception, the government is providing certainty to the creators. The statement said that some in the technology sector called for the introduction of a “broad text and data mining exception in Australian copyright law but such a proposal would allow artificial intelligence developers to use the works of Australian creators for free and without permission to train AI systems."The full statement follows:...
