EU leaders divided on closeness of completing Mercosur trade deal

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said after a EU leaders' summit that EU capitals had unanimously approved the deal, a claim dismissed by European Council President António Costa, who said leaders hadn’t yet wrapped it up. French President Emmanuel Macron took a more cautious line, saying work was still “moving in the right direction,” with safeguards to protect farmers and consumers.The leaders of Germany and France have shown optimism about the final adoption of the EU-Mercosur trade deal, but they differ on where the process currently stands....
