AI chatbots significantly wrong on news almost half the time, BBC-led study finds

( October 22, 2025, 10:51 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity return answers on news queries with errors 81 percent of the time and significant issues 45 percent of the time, finds a study led by the BBC and the European Broadcasting Union, which covers 22 broadcasters worldwide. Sourcing was the most common issue with 31 percent of all responses having significant issues, while 20 percent of answers had significant accuracy issues. Google’s Gemini had the highest proportion of significant issues at 76 percent of responses, many stemming from sourcing problems.
