Global AI safety bodies shifting focus to security risks, South Korea official says

Importantly, collaboration within the 10-member International Network of AI Safety Institutes also remains strong, despite US policy changes, with the UK set to take over leadership and co-host a December meeting in San Diego, Kim Myuhng-joo said. Domestically, South Korea’s institute plans to use sharply increased funding in 2026 to expand testing capacity and deepen partnerships with groups such as Scale AI, Kim said.The focus of leading global artificial intelligence safety institutes has been shifting toward the security risks posed by malicious uses of AI tools, moving away from concerns about hypothetical threats with foundational models, the head of South Korea’s AI safety institute said....
