Nokia takes side of UPC in dispute with UK courts over FRAND terms

By Douglas Clarke-Williams ( October 21, 2025, 15:50 GMT | Insight) -- Nokia has taken the side of the Unified Patent Court in its dispute with the UK courts over the perceived eagerness of the latter to impose global fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory, or FRAND, terms via interim licenses.Arguing in court Tuesday against the UK front in a global battle against Acer, Hisense and Asus over video decoding patents, Nokia waded into the clash between UK and EU courts over the right of one jurisdiction’s judiciary to hand down orders which restrict legal proceedings in other countries. Nokia said that the UK courts were wrong to think that the interim license regime benefits global litigation proceedings....
