Google moves to address Japan competition concerns after appeal deadline passes

In a Japanese-language statement on Tuesday, Google said it would make “necessary changes” while maintaining a free and open Android ecosystem, following its constructive engagements with the regulator. The company didn’t confirm whether it had chosen not to appeal, but a Tokyo District Court spokesperson told MLex that Google hasn’t filed a lawsuit against the JFTC so far. On April 15, the JFTC issued the order, finding that Google’s default search arrangements with smartphone makers and carriers unfairly excluded rival services in breach of the Antimonopoly Act.
