Singapore introduces new bill enabling redress for online harms

The bill aims to empower victims of online harms to seek timely relief and legal redress. Key provisions include establishing an Online Safety Commission to oversee a statutory reporting mechanism that will be set up by the first half of 2026, introducing statutory torts against communicators, administrators and platforms, and enhancing accountability including disclosure of user identity in specified cases. The bill responds to survey data showing 84 percent of Singaporeans encountered harmful content, with 33 percent experiencing harmful online behavior in the past year.
