Meta’s ‘PG-13’ teen accounts not guided by movie ratings, US film body says

By Patricia Figueiredo and Frank Hersey ( October 15, 2025, 17:16 GMT | Insight) -- The US film-ratings body has rejected Meta’s framing of Instagram’s new teen accounts as being guided by PG-13 ratings. The Motion Picture Association said the film industry’s system has no connection to Instagram’s new settings. Meta argued its guidelines use PG-13 as a reference, and said it has changed its AI chatbots to also be “guided by PG-13 ratings by default." The update rolls out this year in the US, UK, Australia and Canada, with EU expansion expected for early next year.The US organization that oversees movie ratings said Instagram’s new tool for teen accounts, which Meta claims will give the same sense of reassurance to parents as the PG-13 movie rating, doesn’t have any connection to the film industry’s rating system....
